What? Me?
While the students were doing a lab today, I took a minute to check my email and to my surprise, I received an email from the Director of Instructional Support. Crap! What did I do? My email isn’t set up so that I can see the subject so I panicked for a brief moment. Am I going to have to go to another meeting? Am I going to be observed on Monday, two days before a major NASA event?
I opened the email and was pleasantly surprised. It read:
Hello Autumn,
Congratulations! You have been nominated as a candidate for one of Elk Grove Unified School District’s 2011 Teachers of the Year. Attached please find your congratulatory letter.
Nah, this couldn’t be me. I think she’s got the wrong Nguyen. I opened the attachment and was still in disbelief. What the heck?!?
Really, they’ve got the wrong Nguyen.
My principal emails me and tells me to see her.
I am honored that someone out there nominated me for such a title. Thank you, whoever you are.

Isn’t it sad, though, that we’ve become conditioned, through prior experience, to immediately react to messages from administration with a sense of trepidation or dread?
